I strive to be dependable, both to others and to myself. For others, I think I have a pretty sterling record. For myself, not as much.
Back in 2024, I wrote this article about dependability and why it’s important. I also stated there that one of my goals was writing an article a week. Whelp, that didn’t happen.
Here in 2025, my work has also been slower than I had hoped. And my reading goals are far behind schedule. Part of that is having a lot of unexpected, new, and wonderful things come up, but I should still be writing more regularly and pacing my reading.
Another part is that, perhaps owing to my background in software development, I’m terrible at estimates of work/deadlines/etc. I should probably work to improve that, and set more realistic goals.
That’s certainly not to say I haven’t achieved a lot of what I set out to. As I mentioned here, I set out to go through Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount in Russian. I did so, and it was very rewarding. Speaking of Russian, my studies there continue slowly, but steadily.
In closing, I clearly should do better to achieve everything I say I will. But I should also be more careful about what I say I’ll do in the first place. I can do many things, but I cannot do everything.
