Sometimes I feel like, within us, we have an inner hero and an inner loser. They fight for our actions. Sometimes we do what the hero tells us, but sometimes we blow it and follow the loser.
Like, let’s say you’re on a diet, staying away from sweets after supper. The loser tempts you to binge on the ice cream in the freezer. The hero tells you to hold fast. In fact, the hero probably told you not to buy the ice cream in the first place.
The hero is proactive. The loser is reactive. When there’s something hard that needs doing, the hero steps up to the plate, while the loser procrastinates.
When doing the right thing takes courage, it’s the hero that tells you to do it. It’s the loser that tells you to cower and let somebody else do it.
Sometimes, the loser pretends to be the hero, promoting false-bravado. When you see road-rage and such like that, bingo. That’s the loser acting like a hero.
I don’t know about you, but I want to go with the hero option, as much as I possibly can. It (usually) ultimately leads to better results, and a richer life. And it’s almost certainly the option God would have you take.
