Quality Or Regularity?

I’m trying to write an item a week to this blog. Even on bad weeks, I want to stick to this, on principle. But at the same time, I also want to avoid writing things that aren’t worth reading. I don’t want filler posts.

But if nothing else, I can’t compromise on getting the average right. I fully intend to finish out the year with at least 52 articles. It’s hardly so lofty a goal, and if that gives me trouble, I’m in for a hard career.

Why choose? Let’s be greedy! Why not aim for both? Of course, anybody can just say that.

So, what’s my strategy for upholding both quality and regularity? I write articles in parallel, sometimes over lengthy periods of time. Picture something like assembly lines. Right now, I’d estimate I have about 4 articles sitting around in various states of research and writing. And those are just the ones I’ve started writing.

I have dozens and dozens of “ideas” I’ve written down and keep handy. How do they fit in? Most will probably be discarded. They just don’t have enough value as an article. Some will be folded into others to make new ideas. And eventually, some small selection of them will become the seeds of new articles. These are what go into my writing “assembly line” mentioned above.

Is this a winning strategy? Who knows? I’ll have a much better idea later in the year. But for now, it’s working. If it serves me well, perhaps around December I’ll elaborate a bit more on my process.
